Elaine May Binns(nee Parker)Elaine passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021 in Whakatane New Zealand; Bernie, her soulmate of 63 years, was at her side. She was an adored sister of Hazel Fisk and Rosalind Atkinson; mother of Helen, Kathryn and Patrick; a loving grandmother of five; and a great-grandmother of seven. Elaine is remembered by many friends in New Zealand, Canada, and England.Elaine was born in London, England on January 2, 1933. She grew up in The Wirrall, near Chester England. Returning to London for medical school in 1954, she met Bernie. They were married in 1957. Moving around as doctors they eventually settled in Canada and New Zealand.Elaine was an adventurer with an inquiring mind. She was happy to pick-up and explore the world.In her youth Elaine was a talented athlete playing field hockey and lacrosse for her school and university teams. She enjoyed golf, tramping, drawing, and painting. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed providing hospitality for friends and family.Elaine was a humble person; she would influence others indirectly through example. At the same time, she has impacted thousands of people throughout her career as a physician and as a leader within many local communities.As per Elaine's wishes a private service has been held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army in your region can be made. A celebration of life will be held at the Whakatane Lyceum on February 12, 2021. Read more
