This is your bridesmaid (Val Aitken nee Phillips) writing
I was sad to read of Joan's passing as I often think of you both. For the last 3 years my husband Bob and I have lived in Crestwood Retirement village, Green Bay. In the early morning i often walk to the beach and look across to Waiuku and think of Joan. My - we had a great time. As a P.E. adviser I visited Waiuku School where Joan was head of the Junior school. Joan suggested instead of staying on my own at the pub I could stay with her... there began a great friendship. Her pupils were featured in the p.e. handbook I wrote for the N.Z. teachers. Then Gillian and I played golf at Pukekohe.. or should i say tried to play golf. More laughs than hits.
Joan was so artistic and so glamourous.
It was lovely being your bridesmaid and our dresses were beautiful. I wore that dress when my Bob and i went on board Britannia to meet the Queen Mother.
Gillian and I were the excuse when you and Joan went out.. I still see Gillian.- our bridesmaid.
Another reminder for me are the Weber ads... I remember the flowersJoan put in your pool when you launched the product at Pukekohe.
Happy days, when we were young......
My Bob died last November after declining health However, like you , Bob I have very supportive family .and as I do not have internet I am using our younger son Mark's.

To our dear mother, its been a journey of pain, heart ach, moments of joy, laughter, and many tears. How do you possibly write how a person impacts your life. Only in the eyes of God does he truely know the meaning of this. May your journey into the life after be blessed with kindness, love, respect and honor and may you cherish the years we had together as much as I did. God bless you mum. May your wings fly high with exceptional love, laughter and joy xxxx
