one day
when I am like you
I will look back and smile
and think of how I used to be

one day
when your name is
written in sand
I will stand with my children
and theirs,
we will chant your name
into the dawn

one day
when we are walking
hand in hand in hand
we will pick all the
flowers that remain
showering them down
we shower them down

and one day
we will be
still as we are now

Dear Barrie, thank you for all the wonderful memories of your trips to Christchurch to be with us for Christmas and holidays. I loved how you and Kate fitted in so well with our family. I can see you yapping away with Dad while Kate and mum giggled together over a glass of wine. Thank you for all the chats that we had together over the last nine years. You were an amazing man. I will miss you alot. Love Sarah, Cayla, Luke and Anna-Jane xx

He never looks for praise
He’s never one to boast
He just goes on quietly working
for those he loves most
His dreams are seldom spoken
His wants are very few
And most of the time his worries
will go unspoken too
He’s there… a firm foundation
through all our storms in life
A steady hand to hold
in times of stress and strife
A true friend I can turn to
when times are good or bad
One of my greatest blessings
That man I call my Dad.

Dear Barrie.
I said it all to you last week and I am so glad to have had that time with you.
But I'll say it again.
Thank you for being a wonderful father-in-law and later, one I called friend.
Thank you for being Caleb and Ceridwens grandad.
We always had a mutual fondness and respect for each other.
I'm so grateful I made you smile when I last saw saying...
Go well old sausage.....

Message to Kathleen and family from Bill and Wendy Bennett:
We and many colleagues in Hawke's Bay and Gisborne remember with great affection Barrie's ministry in the Diocese of Waiapu. He was Senior Student at St John's College in the last year of his theological training. He had a deep enquiring mind about life and its meaning, much of which came out in his own autobiography he later wrote.
Kathleen, we send our love and sympathy as we remember a man who was always searching.
