ah shep, my very first bunk buddy on the race. so thoughtful and easy to get on with. the downside to sharing a tiny space with you, you lovely man of course was that we weren't on the same watch, but it didn't matter. by rio we were great pals. when you arrived back on the boat in leg 4 it was like you'd never left. every time I went up the rig (a lot on the short sydney-hobart it turned out) you were looking out for me on the deck. you put up a hell of a fight mate. I miss you xx

From the age of 9 you instilled the love for basketball in me and for that I’m eternally grateful. Your infectious smile and classic one liners will stay in my memory forever. Rest peacefully Shep, you fought one hell of a fight and left one hell of a legacy behind. Sending love to Debbie, Kim and your families

Those you love don't go away,
They walk beside you everyday,
Unseen, unheard but always near,
So loved, so missed, so very dear
Wishing you peace and comfort,
courage to face the long days ahead,
No longer in your lives to share,
But in your hearts loving memories always there
All our prayers and thoughts are with you during your time of sorrow. So sad love Zoe Roger Robert & Christopher XxXx

Alan was an extraordinary gentleman, authentic to the core. I sailed with Alan across the Atlantic Oceans & on the Sydney to Hobart race. He had a gentle way of creating stability in times of turmoil and really knew how to connect with people.
He is now in a better place.

Never before have I felt such a loss of a friend as I do at this sad time. Although we met only six years ago such was the impact of your friendship it could have been a lifetime. Karen and I will remember you forever and cherish every moment spent with you.

You will be missed Shep. I was one of the lucky ones to be coached and mentored by you. Thankyou for showing me how to dribble a basketball and being patient with me as a junior player. I'll treasure your coaching books forever and one day, I'll pass them on to the right person just like you wanted. Love you Shep xx
